The research focus of the Core Facility Hard Tissue and Biomaterial Research, Karl Donath Laboratory is on the histological, morphological and histomorphometric assessment of preclinical and clinical trials in oral implantology and on osteological fundamental research.

The research focuses of the Karl Donath Laboratory are:

  • Examinations on how the bone supply for an implant setting can be improved through the optimisation of augmentation materials.  
  • Improvement of the integration and durable resilience of dental implants in the jaw bone by improving implant forms and implant surfaces.
  • Increase of bone regeneration and the so-called ossointegration by testing added growth factors and cells cultivated in cell cultures. 
  • Examination of the growth and development of children’s skulls using high definition computer tomography (µCT).
  • Forensic osteology and anthropology.
  • Histological and micro-computer-tomographic examinations of the changes to teeth and bones due to genetic mutations.
