Full-time Training in Orthodontics

During their three-year postgraduate training, dentists are trained to become orthodontists at the University Clinic of Dentistry Vienna. The course imparts all the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to treat even very complex cases – from admission to case planning, treatment and documentation.

The participants in the special training are integrated into the clinic’s operation and learn by dealing with concrete cases of patients. In addition to the case planning and the discussion of current cases, the participants also complete seminars to obtain a solid theoretical grounding. Some of the instructors are from Austria, but there are also visiting professors from abroad teaching seminars for this training.

At the end, graduates will undergo an oral examination with external examiners. In the course of this exam, five cases have to be presented which were treated and documented in the course of the training (two of those according to EBO guidelines). In addition, the candidates need to plan two unknown cases and defend their treatment plans in the presence of the external examiners.

Accredited by NEBEOP

The Special Training in Orthodontics has been extensively evaluated by the NEBEOP (Network of Erasmus Based European Orthodontic Program) certification program and has received the international NEBEOP accreditation. The Orthodontics department therefore contributes to the objective of establishing a Europe-wide standard for orthodontic training in order to be able to group learning processes in the future.
